Daphne van der Putten IPT Practitioner, Owner, Founder of Integral Pelvic Therapy, Midwife, Educator

Midwife at heart, committed, involved, loving, knowledgeable and powerful. For years she has guided women through the special process of pregnancy and birth. In addition, she is an entrepreneur with a passionate vision. She makes connections where others do not see them, in which equality and freedom are important principles.

My name is Daphne van der Putten. In addition to being a creative entrepreneur, I am a midwife at heart. My sources of inspiration are Ina May Gaskin, Michel Odent and Sheila Kitzinger. These birth workers not only have profound knowledge about the female body and the birth process, they also honor the inner wisdom of women. They advocate allowing autonomous birth to unfold (i.e., without unnecessary outside interference). Female empowerment and body wisdom have always been the common thread in my career.

I help women in their quest for body awareness so that she can perceive her body, feelings but also her limits and act accordingly.

Medical background

In 2009 I graduated as a midwife. I completed my training in Belgium and worked there as a so-called caseload midwife in a small midwifery practice. We assisted home and hospital births. After a while, I felt a desire to delve into more complicated issues that may come into play during a birth and began working as a clinical midwife. Then I worked for several years in an academic hospital (the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital in Utrecht), where I helped with complicated births that required specialized knowledge and care. There I was also certified as a neonatal life support trainer and basic life support trainer and became a certified hypnobirthing teacher.

During my time at the hospital, I always tried to build bridges between the medical and complementary worlds. Something I still do with passion!

I am now working as a midwife at the Dana Center which I founded with Mariëtte. There, together with my wonderful colleagues, I get to supervise home and hospital deliveries. I like to work in a free way, free of protocols, but with respect for science. These days at Dana Center, I support my fellow midwives during illness and vacations and occasionally accompany a low number of clients per month as a caseload midwife.

In addition to my work as a midwife and bodyworker, I am the proud mother of three sons currently ages 14, 19 and 22. I am very proud of them and feel grateful and blessed every day that they are healthy and happy!

Spiritual development

My spiritual journey runs parallel to my development in my work and I have done all kinds of courses in this area, learning to pray and meditate. I have embraced the beautiful concept of man as a sexual being by attending various tantric trainings. I have learned to feel without judgment and to allow all feelings, to accept everything that arises in me without wanting to change it, both joy and ecstasy, as well as discomfort and pain.

De-armouring

Through my spiritual journey, I came in contact with de-armouring. This is a method of releasing the body from blockages stored in the body as a defense mechanism.

One of my teachers is Susanne Roursgaard (Gaia method). She gave me a good theoretical and practical foundation in the field of internal and external de-armouring on both women and men. Then I started to study more and more the importance of connective tissue (fascia) in releasing tension in the body. I trained with several osteopath friends to broaden my practical knowledge of the external pelvic area.

I have also taken some training courses in Myofascial Energetic Release with Satyarthi Peloquin and Roland Engelbracht.

In 2017, I had the opportunity to attend the Holistic Pelvic Care™ training developed by Tami Lynn Kent. She is a forerunner in the field of intimate bodywork and I had the opportunity to learn a lot from her. My practical knowledge regarding the pelvis deepened in this setting. I learned how to work on a structural level, such as working with the fascia and resolving tension patterns, on the one hand, and how to use visualization techniques to replace an imprint of trauma in the pelvis with a healthy imprint, for example. Especially after birth, this is a very useful technique.

Integral Pelvic Therapy®

All these different techniques and theoretical approaches have left their mark on my capacity as a therapist in the field of women and health. As a result, I have developed my own way of working, a mix of attentive touch, fascia and trigger point release, emotional bodywork and energetic techniques.

In January 2018, I decided to quit as a hospital obstetrician to devote myself fully to my practice as a bodyworker (specializing in pregnancy and birth). My way of working was given a name: Integral Pelvic Therapy®.

Together with my friend and wise wife Mariëtte Frits, the Integral Pelvic Therapy® Education course was developed for professionals. The training is now accredited by the CRKBO, KTNO, BATC and the KNOV. We have also founded the professional association Integral Pelvic Therapy Association (the “IPTA”). Our mission is to make holistic bodywork more accessible in the mainstream system in this way, so that in the future it will be accessible to every woman.

I am proud to have found my own path, to work from my heart and pelvis, and to be supported by family and friends. I am grateful for the respect from my fellow bodyworkers, from midwives and doctors. Everything seems to be falling into place as my path continues to unfold.

My vision ofbirth :

My vision of birth is based on trust. Trust in yourself and trust in the process. Freedom of choice and feeling embodied consent, are prerequisites for giving birth in confidence. For me it is very important that I can work with you as a client on an equal basis, where I can guide and advise from my expertise and where you can empathize and decide at every step whether you want something or not.

I experience guiding this process as an enrichment every time. It is an honor to be so close to the transforming experience of birth. As a midwife, as a coach, as a sister.

To properly guide you through this process, it is important to me that you feel a willingness to dive deep into yourself and examine your own frame of mind. About yourself, about your relationship and about birth in general. I believe that birth can be a very spiritual experience, and this should therefore be approached with awareness, holistic and attentive care.
