Pregnancy Stages
You now know how your baby is developing during all the months of your pregnancy. In yourself, you also notice changes. Usually the changes taking place in you are divided into three trimesters.
First trimester (0-12 weeks)
During this period of your pregnancy, your body slowly begins to adapt. All kinds of things are happening inside: your uterus is getting bigger, but you don’t see much difference yet from the outside. Nausea, especially in the morning, can set in. Many women feel tired. Your heart rate and metabolism go up and your breathing becomes faster, which can make you run out of breath faster. Your breasts become larger, heavier and often more sensitive. You usually gain 1 to 2 pounds during this period. If you are very nauseous and vomit a lot, it may be different.Only 50 grams of that weight gain is the baby. The rest is due to amniotic fluid, placenta, and your larger uterus and breasts.
Second trimester (14-26 weeks)
The pregnancy ailments of the first three months often diminish or even disappear completely. You now really begin to see that you are pregnant, and your waistline slowly disappears. Your bowels work a little slower due to the slackening of the muscles in your intestinal tract, which can lead to constipation. You may gain about 6 pounds in this trimester. The baby then weighs only 1 kilogram. The rest of the pounds come from the baby’s support system (placenta and amniotic fluid). The cartilage and ligaments in your pelvis become softer and more flexible. This gives your uterus more room and prepares your body for delivery. Your posture also changes a little as a result. Your uterus is held in place in your abdominal cavity by ligaments that grow with it. This can sometimes be painful, but the pain is usually harmless and disappears on its own once the ligaments adjust to the growth of your uterus.
Third trimester (27-40 weeks)
In the last three months of your pregnancy, you probably have a little less freedom of movement because of your growing belly. Your belly sometimes gets in the way of everyday things. You may feel tired more often, and many women sometimes cannot sleep well. Taking adequate rest becomes extra important. You may feel out of breath faster than usual. That makes sense because your growing uterus is pressing against your ribs, giving your lungs less room. And your heart has to work harder because of the extra blood being pumped around. Your heart rate is about 15 beats higher in the third trimester than it was before you were pregnant. Your uterus also pushes on your bladder, filling it up faster. In the last three months, you gain about 5 more pounds, of which 3 to 4 pounds are for the baby. Toward the end of this trimester, the baby usually sinks a little in the pelvis in preparation for birth, which literally gives you a little more air!
Services of Dana Center
Our Integral Pelvic Therapy
Our Integral Pelvic Therapy, a holistic approach to pelvic treatment, is an essential part of our pregnancy counseling. We aim to restore pelvic balance using gentle external and, if necessary, internal massage techniques. Our experience shows that by paying specific attention to the pelvic area during pregnancy, the number of interventions during childbirth can be significantly reduced. This often results in a smoother delivery with fewer complications, as we have observed in our practice.
Holistic Midwives
Our central belief is that pregnancy and childbirth are natural processes that are best accomplished with as little intervention as possible. We strive to encourage confidence in each woman’s own body and inner strength, something we heartily wish for everyone. You are always welcome to come to us with ideas, doubts and questions. In this way we want to support you, with confidence on your way to a strong start as a family!
To make this care possible, we charge a co-payment. View our elective packages.
